[ΕΝ] Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s and became more known for the visual artworks of authors and their writings. The goal of the surrealists was to bridge contradictory, according to Freud, situations of dream and reality. Artists often combined absurd scenes, painted with photographic precision, creating strange or otherworldly creatures from everyday objects. They considered that through the use of advanced painting techniques they will allow the unconscious to express itself. The surreal works feature the element of surprise, the unexpected confrontation, but also of the discontinuity. Many surrealists artists and writers consider first and foremost their work as an expression of their philosophical movement and their projects as the result of this expression.
