Κύπρος και Ελλάδα στο ιδρυτικό συμβούλιο της παγκόσμιας World Industrial Design Association (WIDA)
Στη Σαγκάη της Κίνας πραγματοποιήθηκε από τις 16 έως τις 19 Απριλίου 2026 η Ιδρυτική Διάσκεψη της World Industrial Design Association (WIDA), ενός κορυφαίου διεθνούς οργανισμού στον τομέα του βιομηχανικού σχεδιασμού, που συνδέει ακαδημαϊκά ιδρύματα, βιομηχανία και ερευνητικά κέντρα με στόχο την προώθηση της καινοτομίας, της έρευνας και της διεθνούς συνεργασίας.
Οι εργασίες της διοργάνωσης φιλοξενήθηκαν στο University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, καθώς και στο Fuxing Cloud Hall στη Σαγκάη, και περιλάμβαναν την Πρώτη Γενική Συνέλευση και την Πρώτη Συνεδρία του Πρώτου Συμβουλίου της WIDA, σηματοδοτώντας την επίσημη έναρξη λειτουργίας του οργανισμού σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο.
Η WIDA έχει ως αποστολή την ανάπτυξη του βιομηχανικού σχεδιασμού διεθνώς, συμβάλλοντας παράλληλα στον ανθρώπινο πολιτισμό και την κοινωνικοοικονομική εξέλιξη. Τα ιδρυτικά της μέλη προέρχονται από 15 χώρες, ενώ δραστηριοποιείται σε περισσότερα από 20 διεπιστημονικά πεδία, ενισχύοντας τη διασύνδεση γνώσης, τεχνολογίας και δημιουργικότητας.
Η Κύπρος και η Ελλάδα εκπροσωπήθηκαν μέσω της Αγγελικής Αθανασιάδη και του Μίλτου Καρρά, συνιδρυτικών μελών της WIDA και συνιδρυτών του Graphic Stories Cyprus, ενός διεθνούς πολιτιστικού και εκπαιδευτικού οργανισμού οπτικής επικοινωνίας με πολυετή δράση σε συνέδρια, εκθέσεις και διεθνείς συνεργασίες.
Η Αγγελική Αθανασιάδη, βραβευμένη visual communication designer, ακαδημαϊκός και ιδρύτρια και Creative Director του Graphic Stories Cyprus, συμμετείχε ως keynote speaker στο International Academic Salon of Industrial Design, παρουσιάζοντας την ομιλία:“Designing the Future: Human-Centred Innovation, Education and Responsibility in the Age of AI”, αναδεικνύοντας τη σημασία του ανθρωποκεντρικού σχεδιασμού, της εκπαίδευσης και της υπεύθυνης αξιοποίησης της τεχνητής νοημοσύνης.
Παράλληλα, εκλέχθηκε ως μέλος του Πρώτου Συμβουλίου (First Council Member) της WIDA, συμμετέχοντας στο ιδρυτικό διοικητικό όργανο του οργανισμού και συμβάλλοντας ενεργά στη διαμόρφωση της διεθνούς του κατεύθυνσης.
Ο Μιλτιάδης Καρράς, καθηγητής Φυσικής και Ρομποτικής, συνιδρυτής και Γενικός Συντονιστής του Graphic Stories Cyprus, με μακρόχρονη δράση στην εκπαίδευση, την τεχνολογία, τη ρομποτική και τη διεθνή συνεργασία, καθώς και με σημαντικές διακρίσεις και πρώτες θέσεις σε διαγωνισμούς ρομποτικής στην Κύπρο και το εξωτερικό, συμμετείχε επίσης στις εργασίες της Ιδρυτικής Συνέλευσης, ενισχύοντας τη σύνδεση του σχεδιασμού με την εκπαίδευση, την καινοτομία και τις εφαρμοσμένες τεχνολογίες.
Μέσα από τη συμμετοχή τους, αλλά και μέσα από τη συνολική διεθνή πορεία του Graphic Stories Cyprus, η Κύπρος και η Ελλάδα εντάχθηκαν στον παγκόσμιο χάρτη της WIDA, αποκτώντας παρουσία σε έναν νέο διεθνή θεσμό που διαμορφώνει το μέλλον του design από το ιδρυτικό του στάδιο.
«Η συμμετοχή μας στη WIDA δεν αφορά μόνο τον σχεδιασμό, αλλά τη δυνατότητα της Κύπρου και της Ελλάδας να έχουν ενεργό ρόλο στον διεθνή δημιουργικό διάλογο και στη διαμόρφωση του μέλλοντος», ανέφερε η Αγγελική Αθανασιάδη.
Η εξέλιξη αυτή ενισχύει τη διεθνή εκπροσώπηση της Κύπρου και της Ελλάδας, δημιουργεί νέες προοπτικές συνεργασίας και ανταλλαγής γνώσης και συμβάλλει στην ανάδειξη της δημιουργικότητας και της πολιτιστικής ταυτότητας των δύο χωρών μέσα από ένα παγκόσμιο δίκτυο.
Σε μια εποχή ταχύτατων αλλαγών, η WIDA προωθεί τη συνεργασία πέρα από σύνορα και επιστημονικά πεδία, με κοινό στόχο ένα πιο βιώσιμο, ανθρώπινο και ουσιαστικό μέλλον.
Το θέμα παρουσιάζει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον για τους τομείς της εκπαίδευσης, της δημιουργικής βιομηχανίας, της τεχνολογίας και της πολιτιστικής ανάπτυξης.

Cyprus and Greece represented in the Founding Council of the World Industrial Design Association (WIDA)
The Founding Conference of the World Industrial Design Association (WIDA) took place in Shanghai, China, from April 16 to 19, 2026, marking the official launch of a new global organisation dedicated to advancing industrial design through international collaboration, research, and innovation.
The conference was hosted at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and at the Fuxing Cloud Hall in Shanghai, and included the First General Assembly and the First Council Meeting of WIDA, establishing the organisation’s governance structure at its founding stage.
WIDA is a leading global organisation in the field of industrial design, bringing together academia, industry, and research institutions. Its mission is to advance the global development of industrial design while contributing to human culture and socio-economic growth. Its founding members span 15 countries, and the organisation is active across more than 20 interdisciplinary fields.
Cyprus and Greece were represented by Angeliki Athanasiadi and Miltiades Karras, co-founding members of WIDA and co-founders of Graphic Stories Cyprus, an international cultural and educational organisation in visual communication, with extensive activity in conferences, exhibitions, and international collaborations.
Angeliki Athanasiadi, an award-winning visual communication designer, academic, and Founder & Creative Director of Graphic Stories Cyprus, participated as a keynote speaker at the International Academic Salon of Industrial Design, presenting: “Designing the Future: Human-Centred Innovation, Education and Responsibility in the Age of AI”, highlighting the role of human-centred design, education, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
She was also elected as a First Council Member of WIDA, taking part in the organisation’s founding governing body and contributing to shaping its international direction.
Miltiades Karras, Physics and Robotics educator, co-founder and General Coordinator of Graphic Stories Cyprus, with long-standing experience in education, technology, robotics, and international collaboration, as well as significant distinctions and first-place awards in robotics competitions in Cyprus and abroad, also participated in the founding assembly, contributing to the connection between design, education, innovation, and applied technologies.
Through their participation, and through the broader international activity of Graphic Stories Cyprus, Cyprus and Greece were placed on the global map of WIDA, gaining representation in a new international institution that contributes to shaping the future of design from its founding stage.
“Our participation in WIDA is not only about design, but about positioning Cyprus and Greece within the global creative dialogue and contributing to the future of design,” said Angeliki Athanasiadi.
This development strengthens the international presence of Cyprus and Greece, opens new opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange, and contributes to promoting the creativity, cultural identity, and values of both countries within a global network.
In a time of rapid transformation, WIDA promotes collaboration across borders and disciplines, with the shared goal of a more sustainable, human-centred, and meaningful future.
